Trying to lose weight is hard and most diets call for a high degree of willpower. Many people complain that sudden hunger pangs are the reason their diets fail. You should be able to rely on a low calorie snack that can be eaten when you are fighting the urge to consume more fatty and unhealthy foods in order to fight these urges to eat. Dieters should not despair as there are a number of small snacks that can be consumed between meals without spoiling a strict diet.

Low Calorie Snack List:

Jelly

Many hunger pangs involve a desire for sweet items and jelly is a great food to curb these cravings. There are sufficient flavour choices available to suit the majority of preferences, most of which have a sugar-free option. Cravings for sugar are common so it is always a good idea to have some jelly in stock.

Trail Mix

The ingredients used in trail mix will vary depending on the recipe or brand. However, this is a great way to fight cravings as it can be adapted to suit a person’s personal taste. Although relatively high in calories, it is extremely filling and only small amounts are required to successfully suppress appetite. The mix of dried fruit, nuts and cereals satisfies cravings for sweet foods as well as providing a source of protein.

Banana

Although not to everyone’s taste, bananas are a great source of vitamin B, fibre and potassium. They are probably amongst the most filling fruits available and a great source of carbohydrates before a strenuous workout. Containing only one hundred calories, the average banana has around a third of the calories of a chocolate bar.

Popcorn

Popcorn is predominantly air, meaning large quantities can be eaten without consuming enormous amounts of calories. It is fat-free and a whole grain, meaning it contains high levels of fibre. Many people complain popcorn is tasteless but flavour can be added with powdered spices such as paprika and chili powder.

Raw Vegetables

Around ninety percent of a vegetable is water, meaning people will feel full long before they get a chance to overeat. As well as being great ways to fight cravings, vegetables also contain lots of vitamins and minerals. Carrots, cherry tomatoes, cauliflower and broccoli can easily be chopped up and placed in a small sandwich bag. This makes them convenient snacks to carry around.

Low-calorie Hot Chocolate

Many people tend to crave chocolate, particularly straight after meals. There are a number of powdered hot chocolate drinks that contain as few as forty calories. This is a great way to fight cravings for chocolate or sugary foods.

Jaffa Cakes

When people are struggling with cravings for chocolate, they often turn to chocolate bars in order to satisfy their cravings. However, jaffa cakes are a far better option as they contain very low amounts of fat and only have around ninety calories in each one.

Crumpets

At only one hundred calories each, crumpets are a good way to attack cravings for bread. However, most people make the mistake of soaking them in butter and tripling the amount of calories in their snack. Dieters should melt a little low-fat cheese on the top instead or stick to a healthy sunflower spread as an alternative.

A diet should always be sustainable if it is to achieve long-term success. It should also be undertaken alongside a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise. Integrating snacks into this routine is a good way of ensuring hunger pangs don’t turn into huge lapses and a return to unhealthy eating habits. Most nutritionists actually recommend eating snacks as they keep hunger at bay and maintain the body’s metabolism at a stable rate throughout the day. As long as the snacks are healthy ones, they can be eaten between meals as part of a well-balanced diet.
